How to Decorate Your Table for Summer

With summer just around the corner, there will soon be many opportunities to host your family and friends and enjoy eating around your table. You can embellish your table with summer-inspired decorations to make your dining experience even more enjoyable. In this article, we have several tips and ideas for creating a summer-inspired dining table.

Flowers

You can’t go wrong with flowers when you use them as part of your table decoration; they bring summer into your home and create a vibrant, sunny environment. Choose fresh flowers with colour as a centrepiece for your summer dining table. Sunflowers are always a great option; the bright yellow flowers are perfect for representing sunshine. A bunch of different flowers will always look great on a table, but you can also select a particular colour flower to match your plates and other elements of your decoration.

Vibrant fruits

Another great addition to a summer dining table is a selection of vibrant fruits used for decoration. Lemons, oranges and limes can all be used for this purpose; they add an extra edge to the table and can tie in with the colours you’ve selected. Yellow lemons are ideal for a classic summary table as they’re bright yellow and very attractive. Guests can also use them on their food as a garnish if it’s appropriate for the dish.

Candles

You might associate candles with a winter meal as a way to light up a dull evening. However, they can also be useful for decorating your summer table, especially if you’re eating outside. Citronella candles will repel insects that might try to eat your food or bite your guests. They also provide a lovely aroma that many people associate with being on holiday or sitting outside on a summer evening.

Light touch decoration

In the summer, the food tends to be lighter and fresher, and many people use fruits and vegetables to bring colour to dishes. Brightly coloured food can do a great job of feeding your guests and decorating your table. For instance, if you create a large colourful salad for people to help themselves, you can place it in the middle of the table to act as decoration and food. Cocktails are also very popular in the summer; a few jugs of cocktails dotted around your table will add colour and life whilst also providing your guests with a delicious drink. Less is sometimes better when decorating a summer dining table, especially when dining outside, as flowers and other decorations can attract unwanted bees and butterflies.

Natural colours

Summer is all about nature, and using natural colours to decorate your table is a simple but effective approach. A wooden table paired with oak dining chairs is perfect for a natural inspired dinner party. You don’t even need to use a tablecloth; the wood material will work well with this theme. Add other wooden items, such as coasters, to the table and use things you find in nature, such as leaves and berries, to create an interesting table centrepiece to match the theme. If you can place your table outside under a tree or in the grass, you can really get back to nature and immerse yourself in the dining experience.

Provide shade

If you are planning to dine outside, you need to ensure all your guests remain comfortable and safe in the sun. Make sure you provide sufficient shelter from the sun for your guests; some people don’t enjoy sitting out in the sun and are prone to sunburn. In addition, buy more sun cream for guests that might be unprepared. You can leave this in the bathroom with a nice note telling guests they can help themselves. The last thing you want is someone leaving your dinner party with sunburn.

Add blankets to the seating

Even if it’s very hot in the daytime, it can still get chilly in the evening. A great way to keep the party going after dark is to decorate chairs with blankets that guests can use when they get cold. You don’t need to bring these out straight away; just have them on hand if the temperature drops and people start to get chilly.
